Google Pixel repair, by model

Pixels are straightforward phones to repair with two things worth knowing: the fingerprint sensor sits under the screen on most recent models, and a few generations have well-known faults of their own. Here is what applies to yours.

Screens and the fingerprint sensor

From the Pixel 6 onward the fingerprint reader is an optical sensor under the screen, not a separate part on the back. On most of these models the sensor is bonded to the display and comes with a new screen, and after the replacement the phone needs a short calibration step so the reader works with the new panel. We do that as part of the job and test fingerprint unlock with the phone assembled before you pay. Some grades of aftermarket screen have a weaker reader than the original, and on the Pixel that is the main practical difference between grades, so if you rely on fingerprint unlock, choose the higher grade.

Batteries

Pixel batteries are replaced through the back glass, which comes off with heat, and a swap is a same-visit job. Battery health is visible in settings on recent models. A few Pixel generations have a reputation for batteries that wear faster than average; if your phone is two years old and lasting half a day, the cell is the likely cause and a replacement restores it. A swollen battery lifts the back glass; stop charging it and bring it in.

Back glass, cameras and the camera bar

The back of every Pixel here is glass, and on the 6 onward it carries the camera bar across the top. A cracked back is a routine replacement: the glass comes off with heat, the adhesive is cleaned from the frame and a new back is bonded on. The camera bar's glass cover is a separate part on most models and is replaced on its own when it cracks with the camera underneath still working. Rear camera modules, front cameras, earpiece and loudspeakers, and the power and volume keys are all bench work on these models, and the Pixel's habit of putting the microphones close to the charging port means a phone that has been in liquid often needs those looked at too.

Charging ports

Every Pixel here uses USB-C. Lint first, free cleaning, then a port replacement if the connector is worn. On the Pixel the port is on a small board that is replaced as a unit, a same-visit repair.

Known faults by generation

Some Pixel models have faults that show up often enough to be worth naming. Early Pixel 6 units are known for fingerprint readers that need recalibration and for the modem dropping signal, the second of which is a software matter rather than a repair. Pixel 7 and 7 Pro units sometimes develop a rear camera that will not focus or shows a shaking image, which is a camera module replacement. Pixel 7a and 8a screens are a common crack. We will tell you if the fault you describe matches one of these, because sometimes the answer is a software update rather than a part.

Pixel Fold

The inner folding screen on the Pixel Fold and the 9 Pro Fold is one large part and the most expensive repair on the phone; the outer screen is a smaller, ordinary repair. Both are done on the bench, and we quote against the value of the phone.

Liquid and drops

Pixels are rated to resist water when new; the seals are broken by the first repair of any kind. A Pixel that went in water should be turned off and brought in the same day.

Questions people ask

Will fingerprint unlock work after a new screen?

Yes, after the calibration step we do as part of the repair. Higher-grade screens have readers closer to the original; if you rely on fingerprint unlock, choose that grade.

My Pixel camera shakes or will not focus. Is that repairable?

Yes. On the 7 and 7 Pro in particular it is a camera module replacement, a same-visit job.

How long does a Pixel screen take?

Usually well under an hour, including the fingerprint calibration.

My Pixel battery lasts half a day. Is that normal?

Not for a phone under two or three years old. Check the battery health figure in settings; under about eighty percent, a fresh cell restores it.

Can you repair the Pixel Fold inner screen?

Yes. It is one large part and the most expensive repair on the phone; we quote against the phone's value.

Do you have Pixel parts in stock?

Common models, yes. Call the counter with the exact model to confirm before you drive over.
