Every iPhone from the 11 onward comes across our bench, and the same three repairs make up most of the work: screens, batteries and charging ports. Here is what changes from model to model.

Screens
The iPhone screen is a single laminated assembly on every model above, and on most of them a full assembly replacement is the repair. Glass-only is possible on some older models where the panel is sound, and we say when that is the better spend. The 11 uses an LCD and every model from the 11 Pro onward uses OLED, which is why a screen for an 11 and a screen for an 11 Pro differ in price even though the phones look alike. On the 14 Pro onward the always-on and high refresh rate features depend on the grade of panel fitted, and we tell you which grade is going in.
Every iPhone from the 12 onward can show a notice in settings that the display is not recognised as genuine after a screen fitted anywhere except the manufacturer. The screen works normally; it is a message. Face ID lives in a module that is transferred from your old screen to the new one, and it has to be moved intact, which is one of the reasons a rushed repair can leave Face ID not working.
Batteries
Battery health is in settings on every model here, and under about eighty percent is where the phone starts dying early and slowing itself down. A replacement is a same-visit job on the phone models and restores the full-speed behaviour. From the 12 onward the phone can show a notice that the battery is not recognised, or hide the health figure, after a replacement; the battery works normally. A swollen battery on an iPhone pushes the screen up at one edge; stop charging it and bring it in.
Charging ports
The Lightning port on the 11 through 14 and the USB-C port on the 15 onward both collect lint and both wear. A cleaning is free and fixes most "only charges at an angle" complaints. When the port is genuinely worn, it is on a flex cable with the bottom microphone and is replaced as a unit, which is a same-visit job.
Back glass
The back of an iPhone is glass, and a cracked back is a different repair depending on the model. On the 14 and 14 Plus the back is designed to come off, and the job is straightforward. On the 12, 13, 15 and 16 families the back glass is bonded to the frame and is removed with a laser or by a longer manual process, and the price reflects that. Ask at the counter with the exact model.
Cameras, speakers and buttons
Rear cameras that show a black image or a shaking picture, front cameras, earpiece and loudspeakers, and power and volume buttons are all bench repairs on these models. The camera control button on the 16 family is a separate part.
Liquid and drops
Every model here is rated to resist water when new, and the seals age and are broken by the first repair of any kind. A phone that went in water should be turned off and brought in the same day; see the water damage page. A phone that stopped working after a drop with no visible damage is usually a board or connector fault and is diagnosed for free.
Questions people ask
Will my iPhone say the screen or battery is not genuine?
From the iPhone 12 onward, a screen or battery fitted anywhere except the manufacturer can show a notice in settings. It is a message, not a fault. We tell you before we start.
Will Face ID still work after a screen replacement?
Yes, when the Face ID module is transferred from the old screen correctly. That is part of the job, and we test Face ID with the phone assembled before you pay.
Can you replace the back glass?
Yes. On the 14 and 14 Plus it is a simpler job; on the models with bonded back glass it is a longer one. Ask with the exact model.
How long does an iPhone screen take?
Usually well under an hour and often while you shop. Glass-only work and less common models take longer.
Does a battery fix the phone slowing down?
Usually. The phone throttles itself when the cell is worn to avoid shutting off. A fresh cell removes the reason for that.
